Don’t Forget These Projects When Spring Cleaning

Real Estate

If you are planning to list your home in the coming months, a good, deep spring clean is a great way to prepare your home for viewing. Even while the weather is still harsh, there is no time like the present to get started on those once-a-year cleaning projects.

You know what projects need to be tackled as we head into spring cleaning season, but there may be some you have not yet thought of. Get these areas cleaned and you can up the wow factor of your home.

spring 2Appliances- It’s easy to forget about cleaning kitchen and laundry appliances, but if you wait too long, the dishwasher or clothes washer won’t clean well as before; and the refrigerator or oven could house bad odors. A cup of vinegar in a wash cycle can do wonders in either your dishwasher or clothes washer. Defrosting your refrigerator and scrubbing all the shelves and drawers should be done once, if not twice a year. Be sure to clean behind your fridge and clothes dryer too, cleaning the filters and vents will not only help them run better, it can help avert a fire hazard.

spring 3Interior Surfaces- Sure, you have planned to scrub the floors and shampoo carpeting, but have you thought about your walls or ceilings? Going from top to bottom is a great approach to deep cleaning inside.  Be sure you remove any cobwebs in ceiling corners, dust and wash crown molding, ceiling fans, door and window frames, cabinet doors, chair rails and floor molding or kickboards. These areas collect a lot of dust, and many a potential buyer will be scrutinizing your home, attention to the small details can make a big difference.

spring 4Furniture- Freshly cleaned furniture can help you stage your home. Washing area rugs, curtains and window blinds, and vacuuming cushions will liven up a room. Be sure to sweep or vacuum underneath chairs and couches too, for a complete clean. If your outdoor furniture has been stored away, hose down the frames of chairs and tables, and wash any cushions; a damp cloth can work wonders on outdoor canvas or similar materials. If you have not removed all the books or decorative knick-knacks from your shelves, now is a great time to do so, and don’t forget the top of stand along cabinets or shelving units, removing dust from there can help ensure the random dust bunny won’t come tumbling down as potential buyers walk through your home.
