Can you believe the 4th of July is already almost here? There are plenty of ways to celebrate America’s birthday close to home, and a variety of other summertime events happening around Cook County in July. Get the month started off with a great family run, the 2nd Annual Uncle Sam 5k & Little Patriot Dash is set for July 1st in Palatine. Challenge yourself and the whole family, get in a great run and support a wonderful community organization, the Palatine Park Foundation. Not sure about racing? This type of event is always in need of volunteers too.
For the long weekend there is a not-to-be-missed community 4th of July celebration, the 61st Annual Palatine Jaycees Hometown Fest. Enjoy a whole weekend of fun from June 29th through July 4th. This festival has it all, live entertainment, local business expo, craft fair, great food and of course, a carnival, parade and fireworks.
Rolling Meadows also has an excellent 4th of July Parade and Fireworks show. For the parade, all residents, organizations and business are invited to participate in the patriotic fun. This is more than just a parade of floats and marching bands however, pooches, bikes and scooters will also get their time in the spotlight with the Pooch Parade and Bike Parade. If you have kids and they love sports, you’ll want to check out the Inverness Parks District Summer Camps. It’s not too late to sign up for some great week-long or single day youth sport camps. There’s a Tennis Camp July 10th- 26th, Golf Camp sessions throughout the month and a Soccer Camp July 16th-20th. Celebrate 60 years of community at the Rolling Meadows Parking Lot Party set for July 14th at the Community Center. Reserve a ‘Patio Spot’ in the parking lot, decorate it and bring the grill, it’s time for some fun for the entire family. Don’t worry if you don’t get a spot, the party is for everyone, including local food truck vendors to help fee you and live music to entertain.
