Celebrate Palatine German Heritage & Community with Oktoberfest
I have posted before about the home-town feel of Palatine, that this is a place where strong community connections have real value. Coming up is one amazing event which showcases just how much the residents and businesses of Palatine truly care about one another. The 10th Annual Palatine Oktoberfest will take place from Friday, September 15th through Sunday, September 17th. This is your chance to experience the heart of Palatine, so mark your calendar now and Save the Date.
While our Oktoberfest has plenty of excellent German beer, food and music, there is another reason for this community festival. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Palatine, this event is a fundraiser, keeping in mind the main goal of the Rotary which is “Havin’ fun AND doing good!” The funds raised through Oktoberfest are dedicated to various programs and organizations, including local charities. Each year this event brings local business partners, community residents and visitors together through an exciting festival for a good cause.
German heritage has been a part of this region’s culture since the earliest days of settlement for this part of Illinois. The name Palatine itself refers to an area of Germany from which many of our earliest settlers came. With this strong connection to our past, and an ongoing desire to keep strong community bonds, the establishment of Oktoberfest was an ideal event for the Rotary Club of Palatine to put on. Now, ten years running, this free, family-friendly festival is one of the community highlights of the year.
Oktoberfest wouldn’t be right without German beer and food. Throughout the weekend you can taste classic German beers from Wild Onion Brewing including their own Klosh, Hefty Weiss and Oktoberfest brews. Other beers include a Schofferhofer Grapefruit, for something a little different, and Radeberger German Pilsner. Be sure to stop by Heybeck’s Meat Market for their specially expanded German Menu, including white bratwurst and leberkase sandwiches. Live music will be on tap all weekend long with tunes from popular German bands, Die Musikmeisters, The Johnny Wagner Band and Phenix.
The 10th Annual Palatine Oktoberfest is being held across the street from the Palatine Metra Station, at 150 W. Slade Street, with both open air and tented spaces throughout, so whatever the weather, the festival will be on. Keep updated as we get closer to Oktoberfest 2017 through the Facebook Event Page; you can even share this link easily with friends online, the more the merrier.
