Take a Break with September Events Around Cook County

1As September approaches, the kids are returning to school and cooler weather is on the way. It’s been a great summer, but there’s sure to be a wonderful fall season ahead too with plenty of fun things to experience around Cook County. Enjoy Labor Day festivities and get into the feeling of autumn with local community events.

Whether your kids are on a team or not, there’s one Palatine Labor Day tradition not to be missed by any soccer aficionado. This year marks the 38th Annual Palatine Celtic Cup, taking place August 31st- September 3rd at various Palatine Parks. With over 80 games being played by different age groups, this tournament brings kids of all ages together through soccer.

There’s nothing like a parade to celebrate a national holiday. Not far from Palatine, the Village of Shamburg invites all Cook County residents and visitors to join in the fun of their annual Labor Day Parade. Being held Monday, September 3rd, this parade also celebrates the German heritage of our corner of Cook County. Take a break from work and enjoy a community gathering.

Take a load off your work week on Friday September 7th and head over to Rolling Meadows’ Kimball Park. It’s time again for Fridays Rock! & Roll Meadows, a free, outdoor concert for the whole family. Bring a blanket and picnic dinner, relax and enjoy some live music.

It’s all too easy to let old papers and files pile up. September 8th will be your chance to shred those documents at the Palatine Township Shredding Day. Head over the Palatine Township Center parking lot starting at 9:00 AM to drop off your sensitive papers for shredding, up to 2 bags worth.

Everyone deserves a bit of fun, especially our friends and family members with special needs. Join the Clearbrook organization on September 21st for FunFest at Clearbrook Commons in Rolling Meadows. A day full of fun awaits, but this event also takes volunteers to make it possible. Check out the website for details including how you can help FunFest be a memorable day.
